Crop Sciences Research and Education Center (South Farms)

The Crop Science Research and Education Center, referred to as the South Farms, features about 1,600 acres of research fields south of campus. It includes several research farms with most of the acreage dedicated to row crop (corn, soybeans, and small grain) production.

Energy Farm

The Energy Farm offers space, resources, and expertise for field research and production for university researchers, corporate partners, and collaborators. The 320-acre living laboratory supports work connected with alternative energy resources, sustainable food production, and environmental stewardship.

Morrow Plots

The Morrow Plots are named after the first dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor George Espy Morrow. Established in 1876, the plots are the oldest experimental crop field in the Americas and the second oldest in the world.

Northwestern Illinois Agricultural Research and Demonstration Center (Monmouth)

The Monmouth Research and Education Center was established in 1980 near Monmouth in Warren County. The center is located on the very productive Muscatune, Osco, and Sable silt loam soils. In 2019, the university purchase 80 additional acres to bring the total to 400 acres.

Orr Agricultural Research and Demonstration Center

Orr Research and Education Center is co-located with John Woods Community College (JWCC). he Established in 1978 as a 278-acre agronomy center near Perry in Pike County, the center now includes an additional 191 acres. Dominant soil types are Downsouth, Orion, and Winfield silt loams.

Sustainable Student Farm

The Sustainable Student Farm grows 40 to 50 vegetable and fruit crops on 6 acres. Student workers and volunteers plant, cultivate, and harvest produce using low-input and organic practices. Most of the produce goes to campus dining, a farm stand on the quad, and an online store.
